Smoke from NT continues; fire hazard level rises

A cold front coming down from the north may produce lightning and associated showers over the next few days.

That’s according to Alberta Wildfire which says they are prepared with firefighting resources in place.

The ministry adds the current wildfire hazard index level is very high in the Fort McMurray Forest Protection Area.

They add smoke in the community is coming from wildfires burning in the Northwest Territories and anyone with health concerns should check with Alberta Health Services or call 811.

Wildfire Information Officer Lynn Daina says there are currently three active wildfires in the region but all are under control.

Daina says two were caused by lightning, while the third is still under investigation.
