Edmonton’s K-Days festival is honouring Fort McMurray and those who fought hard to protect it from “The Beast.”
R.E.S. Fire Chief Darby Allen and Mayor Melissa Blake will be serving as parade marshalls on July 22 to kick off the week-long event. They’ll be joined by their Edmonton counterparts, Fire Chief Ken Block and Mayor Don Iveson, at the front of the parade.
Just behind them will be several first responders from the RMWB who put their lives on the line to save 90% of Fort McMurray from the wildfire.
The move comes after a social media campaign failed to convince the Calgary Stampede to make Allen their parade marshall, as they decided to go with singers Paul Brandt and Jann Arden.
