Wildlife Safety Event tomorrow to offer tips on being bear smart

Fort McMurray, AB, Canada / MIX 103.7

When the cats away, the mice will play.

And when people are away,  the bears come out.

A number of reports have surfaced this past week about bears rummaging through garbage in Fort McMurray.

While the RMWB is working out a garbage collection schedule for the up-coming early re-entry process, residents can arm themselves with information about being bear smart.

You can get an update on the wildlife status in For McMurray and surrounding areas, learn more about bear behaviour during wildfires, get some helpful tips on how to avoid human-wildlife conflict, and learn to use bear spray.

They will also have bear spray and holsters for sale at the event which runs from noon to three tomorrow.

The family Wildlife Safety Event is being held at Stitchery & More in Nisku, AB (509 11 Ave). The location is across Highway 2 from the Edmonton International Airport south of the Quality Inn, just 15 minutes south of South Edmonton Common.
