AHS continues care for evacuees and first responders

Alberta Health Services says the numbers of GI illnesses reported at the evacuation/reception centres is decreasing significantly.

In fact, the outbreaks at Northlands and Concordia University in Edmonton, were declared over yesterday.

However, AHS continues to provide services for evacuees needing nursing, pharmacy and psychosocial help as well as way-finding to other health care services.

AHS is looking after the people in Fort McMurray as well with the roaming crisis response team providing crisis response services to about 200-230 people each day.

A firefighter rehab station has been set up at Macdonald Island and includes an EMS medical station and Critical Incident Stress Management representation.

AHS says restoration work at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre has been on hold since workers were evacuated on May 16 but should be back on tomorrow.
