Firefighters and staff at a lumber mill are being credited for keeping the mill safe from wildfire just north of Fort McMurray.
Director of Business Development for Northland Forest Products Limited, Dave Harman says staff at the mill have been busy putting in sprinklers and water cannons and government forestry workers have been outting in fireguards.
Harman says Wednesday afternoon the fire flared up.
“About one o’çlock the winds came up and they flared up and it jumped the highway at 63, just about 300 metres south of our office and caught some spruce on fire and it was burning quite intensively, ” says Harman.
Harman says because of the work of staff in prepping the grounds for the fire and firefighters yesterday afternoon and air support, after a couple of hours they were able to knock it down.
He adds the mill suffered no damage and there was no product loss.
