Premier Rachel Notley met with oil sands executives today to discuss the impact the wildfires is having on operations.
At a press conference this afternoon, Notley said the meeting was a chance to hear directly from energy partners.
She says because of first responders there is no damage to oil sands facilities north of Fort McMurray but she says there is still impact to production.
She says before residents can return they must ensure infrastructure is operational, there is safe transportation for workers and goods, and there is housing and services for staff.
Protecting people is priority one.
Notley says movement of goods to Fort McMurray sites by road began today.
She also says the Alberta Energy Regulator has created a recovery team to work with companies on start up plans.
