Old Airport Terminal fire appears extinguished in morning webcam footage

Morning webcam footage appears to show the fires extinguished at the old terminal of Fort McMurray’s airport. Damage appears minimal.

At 7:15 p.m. the RMWB released a wildfire update that indicated the CanWest Propane building was on fire. That blaze has now been extinguished.

Another fire that was heading towards the Fort McMurray International Airport and Saprae Creek area has reached Old Airport Road and crews are onsite battling it.  Webcam footage on Twitter shows parts of the old airport in flames.

There are currently three structure fires on Blackburn Drive.

15 structure fires have happened along Walnut Crescent in Timberlea, with no other fires affecting that neighbourhood at present.

A school in North Parsons, that was in the process of being built, was lost. There is no word yet on whether the school is Elsie Yanik or Dave McNeilly.

Highway 63 remains closed at Highway 69, flames covering the intersection.

Communities not currently experiencing any fires include: Thickwood, Birchwood Trails, Timberlea, Eagle Ridge, Downtown and Prairie Creek.
