A fire that burned close to residential neighbourhoods in Timberlea and Parsons Creek is still smoldering, but doesn’t pose any threat to public safety.

R.E.S. Regional Fire Chief Darby Allen told Mix News the fire is considered “under control” as of 9:38 p.m. He noted that crews will be checking for hotspots overnight, with earnest efforts to put the fire out completely to continue in the morning.

Residents reported the fire being close to the Walnut Crescent and Fireweed Crescent areas in Timberlea, but RCMP Cpl. George Cameron said the wind was blowing in the “right direction” to keep it away from homes and businesses. He added that the fire had traveled along the tree line towards Highway 63.

There’s no word on what caused the fire.
