A municipal program is looking for an artist mentor for its next project.

Community Strategies Coordinator Alanna Bottrell says the RMWB is looking for a Canadian artist/artist team to design and install a mural this summer.

“Yeah, we’re excited about the Bob Lamb Bandstand location because you know that whole Snye area has sort of been redeveloped and it’s quite beautiful and I think it’ll make a really good addition to that scene,” says Bottrell.

Bottrell says the purpose of the Graffitti Abatement Mural Project is to provide a solution to graffiti while bringing public art into the community.

She says this is the sixth mural in the program which aims at reducing vandalism while bringing public art to the community.

“There’s a lot of positive things about it, it only hurts when it’s illegal,” says Bottrell, adding “the hope is that they’ll have enough respect for somebody’s work and craftsmanship to not cover it up.”

The deadline to apply is May 27.

Details on becoming a mentor to the artists selected to do the mural are available through this link.
