An Edmonton entrepreneur wants to bring a new kind of spa experience to Alberta.
Buff Parry dreams of opening a bitumen spa where guests would be treated to soaks in oil-filled baths, among other services using the petroleum derivative.
Having first seen such spas while on holiday in Azerbaijan, and then in Israel and Jordan, Parry thought that they could be successful in Canada.
The businessman feels that Fort McMurray would the “ideal” test market for the venture, emphasizing the tourism and revenue it could bring to the region.
He is also in talks with some First Nations communities in Northern Alberta to become more familiar with the little known medicinal properties of bitumen.
According to Parry, he has already had interest from one hotel chain and a couple of investors.
