While thousands of Albertans have lost their jobs over the past year or so, some executives seem to be benefitting from the recession.
News out of Calgary came on Friday that Suncor CEO Steve Williams’ salary reached $12.8 million in 2015, a raise of half a million dollars over 2014.
The revelation comes hot on the heels of Suncor’s more than 1700 layoffs since last year.
The loss of those jobs has changed the face of the oil sands, particularly in Fort McMurray and other hard-hit regions in the province.
Suncor posted nearly $2 billion in losses at the end of 2015, while the company acquired Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. for $6.6 billion in January of this year.
