A 38-year-old Fort McMurray man has passed away following a fatal snowmobile crash southeast of Fort McMurray.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say they responded to a serious snowmobile collision southeast of town at approximately 4 p.m. The vehicle had crashed into a tree in a remote area south of Stony Mountain Road and East of Highway 63. Police say the driver and lone occupant sustained serious injuries, and despite a nearby work site ambulance responding to the scene, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead.
The crash was called in by the man’s friend, who was also operating a snowmobile.
The identity of the man is not being released out of respect for the family, and the RMWB’s Victim Services Unit is providing support to family and friends.
Police say RCMP Traffic Services are continuing their investigation into the incident.
