Bug House Chess for Food Bank this Saturday

A group created through the Leadership Wood Buffalo program is collecting for the food bank again this weekend.

Annette’s Angels is hosting Bug House Chess Saturday afternoon at the YMCA.

Member Jina Burn says the games are played by teams of two.

“The normal chess rules apply, but the captured pieces on one board are passed on(to) the teammate on the other board. Then, has the option to put the pieces on his or her board,” says Burn.

Burn says they are fast paced, five minute games, for both kids and adults.

To play, Burn says just show up at three at the Y in Thickwood with a donation for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.

“The kids are having a blast, the adults also. This is just so much fun because you follow the rules of chess, you know, everything is the same, how the piece moves, promoting, checkmate, but you play as a team,” says Burn.

This is the second event by Annette’s Angels after a food drive last weekend brought in more than 3,000 pounds of food.
