Greenpeace Protests at Syncrude

Greenpeace made it onto Syncrude property today and tried to stop a pipeline.

The incident occured near the tailings pond at Aurora North where 500 ducks died earlier this year. Greenpeace says they erected massive "Stop the Tarsand" banners and tried to block a pipeline leading into the pond.

Mix News spoke to Greenpeace Climate Coordinator Dave Martin around 1:30 this afternoon. He said security had detained them at that time and he expected RCMP to be on the way.

The activists say they're here to say the tarsands are an environmental disaster on a scale the world has never seen before.

They say they got onto Syncrude property through a back gate with relative ease.
