Virk found not guilty

A final update coming out of the trial of Inderjit Singh Virk.

Virk is the driver of the semi which hit a diversified bus stranded across the highway near Gibbons back in may of 2005.

He has been found Not Guilty on all counts of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Other drivers testified that they were glad someone else hit the bus before them, saying otherwise they would have hit it instead.

Virk's defense lawyer says with the verdict, an accident has been proven and not a crime.

 

 

Two people arrested in connection with downtown robbery

The investigation continues, but two people have been arrested in connection to a local downtown robbery.

Roughly 180 thousand dollars worth of laptops, digital cameras, and IPods had been stolen.

21-year old Muhamad Yasir Zaman has been charged with theft over 5-thousand, and a youth has also been charged, however he cannot be named because of the young offenders act.

Zaman will make his first court appearance on November 26th.

 

Man arrested with Project Koker found guilty

A man who was arrested along with 17 other individuals as part of Project Koker has been found guilty.

35-year old Jeffery Mark Caines was charged with trafficking cocaine to Fort McMurray and possessing the proceeds of crime.

He'll now serve four years in prison.

During the Project Koker bust, Police seized 20 kilograms of cocaine and more than 2 kilograms of marijuana, along with guns and cellphones.

Two members of the Edmonton Hell's Angels were also arrested during the bust in December 2006.
