| Judge orders voir dire |
|
The Syncrude trial has taken an interesting turn. A provincial judge ruled today that statements made by more than 20 Syncrude employees to government investigators, after hundreds of ducks died on a tailings pond, must be subject to a voir dire or a trial within a trial. Prosecutors and defence lawyers must now make arguments on whether the statements are suitable in the case. Syncrude is facing both federal and provincial charges for the deaths of over 1600 ducks in a toxic tailings pond in April 2008. |
