Royalties Review results to be announced today

The government will release the results of it's competitiveness review this afternoon, where it's likely royalty terms will be lowered closer to rates offered in BC and Saskatchewan, in order to stay competitive.

The new royalty scheme will likely aim at stimulating natural gas drilling, while keeping royalties for oil sands where they are.

Local investors look to bring office space to Fort McMurray

Thursday, 11 March 2010

Owners of land just off Franklin Avenue on Hardin Street want to use that area to develop a Corporate Networks Business Centre.

Ahsen Butt is one of the business partners who made the presentation to council Tuesday night, and told Council they are looking to build a 100-thousand square foot business centre in Fort McMurray on Hardin Street.

"We feel it's needed in Fort McMurray to address the needs of local business and local industry leaders," Butt said.

The project took them over a year to build before coming to council.

Butt and business partner Ian Dirom invested $300,000 of their own money for the project.

Council accepted the presentation as information.
