Holiday Scams

December 21st, 2009

All you last minute shoppers I know the feeling! At this time of the year the more desperate you are to land the right gift the more vonurable you become! Keep an eye out for some of these scams so you don’t get played this X-mas
FIVE HOLIDAY SHOPPING SCAMS TO AVOID

One reason we all overspend during the holidays is because we let stores and shopping malls sucker us into buying more than we need to. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are five holiday shopping scams to avoid . . .

#1.) DON’T BUY EXTENDED WARRANTIES.
They can cost hundreds of dollars, and you don’t always need one. In fact, you usually don’t. So be careful, especially in the electronics department. And ask to read the warranty before you sign it.

#2.) DON’T GET TRICKED INTO OVER-BUYING.
Retailers put related products near each other so you’ll buy one, then buy the other without thinking about whether you really need it or not.

#3.) DON’T SHOP AT THE END OF THE AISLE.
When you’re at stores like Target and Wal-Mart, don’t assume something’s on sale just because it’s featured at the end of an aisle. They KNOW that’s what you think, so they put full-priced items there instead.

#4.) BEWARE OF BUY-ONE-GET-ONE-FREE SALES.
If you really do need two, then it’s probably a great deal. But if it’s something you can’t use and don’t need, then you’re only buying it because it’s on sale . . . which means you’re wasting money.

#5.) READ THE RETURN POLICY.
A lot of major retailers print it on the back of the receipt. And some charge a restocking fee if you bring something back and the factory seal is broken.

Turbo Big Snake

November 20th, 2009

Last weekend I spoke about that Gigantic Pair snakes that they found in China! They say it could be a hoax… you make the call! Pic available at http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_3557842.html?menu=news.quirkies

Photo of 55ft snake shocks China

A photograph purporting to show a 55ft snake found in a forest in China has become an internet sensation.

It was originally posted in a thread on the website of the People’s Daily, the official Communist Party newspaper in China.

The thread claimed the snake was one of two enormous reticulated pythons found by workers clearing forest for a new road outside Guping city, Jiangxi province.

They apparently woke up the sleeping snakes during attempts to bulldoze a huge mound of earth.

“On the third dig, the operator found there was blood amongst the soil, and with a further dig, a dying snake appeared,” said the post.

“At the same time, another gold coloured giant snake appeared with its mouth wide open. The driver was paralysed with fear, while the other workers ran for their lives.

“By the time the workers came back, the wounded snake had died, while the other one had disappeared. The bulldozer operator was so sick that he couldn’t even stand up.”

The post claimed that the digger driver was so traumatised that he suffered a heart attack on his way to hospital and later died.

The dead snake was 55ft (16.7m) long, weighed 300kg and was estimated to be 140 years old, according to the post.

However, local government officials in Guiping say the story and photograph are almost certainly a hoax as reticulated pythons are not native to the area.

First Post!

Alrighty. Lets get this ol wajax started off on the right foot! Basically after my conversation with Leithan I determined that we need to spread some love to the “CG” which is a steller x-mas gift idea! With all seasons of Corner Gas out on dvd it’s a no brainer to either begin or extend your collection of this “Turbo Legit” television program! Granted that not everyone is “down like a clown charlies brown” with the show but the holiday gift idea of ANY SHOW on dvd is awesome! You can watch at your own pace, avoid commercials and of course not needing to put aside time to make sure you catch the new episode in that half hour or hour window! Yes, I agree that having a night of the week where “YOUR SHOW or SHOWS” is on is a dandy and an excuse to stay in and not spend cash but I mean why not make it like that every night and YOU pick the episode or episodes! I’m a true lover of the marathons and making your own can just be a golden day! I would give honorable mentions to other steller shows to snipe on dvd but thats for another time! I leave you on these two final notes “Show CG some love” and “GO LEAFS GO!!”(optimism c’mon we Leaf fans are “Loyal” not “Stupid”!! TAKE CARE!!
