The unemployment rate for our region continues to fall.
According to Statistics Canada, the rate for March sits at 5.7 per cent for Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake – down from February’s three-year low of 6 per cent. The employment rate, on the other hand, rose for a fourth consecutive month to 72.4 per cent.
As for the labour force, the region added 900 full-time jobs month over month, while part-time positions fell by 500 – a fourth straight month these numbers declined.
The Forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, and oil and gas and construction sectors each gained 100 positions month over month.
Provincially, employment rose by 41,000 year over year.
