A two-time Olympic gold medalist is going to be taking part in the festivities for the upcoming Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games.
Quebec native and freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau will be the emcee for the Opening Ceremonies on Friday.
Bilodeau won back to back gold medals in moguls at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games and the 2014 Sochi Winter Games. He was the first Canadian to win an Olympic gold on home soil and the first Olympian to win back to back golds in a freestyle skiing event.
“I’m so excited to come in for the 2018 Wood Buffalo Alberta Winter Games and share this moment with all of Alberta’s next generation of elite athletes,” said Bilodeau. “I could not think of
a better moment than during Olympic games to reflect to these young athletes that the experience that they are about to live is unique.”
The Opening Ceremonies take place Friday, February 16, at 7 p.m. at the Shell Place Baseball Diamond.
Around 2,000 athletes from across the province will take part in the ceremony.
“For some of them, it will be the highlight of their sports career and others it will be a stepping stone to the Olympics, but for all of them it will be long life memories.”
