Nexen Field House was packed near full capacity for the seventh annual Multicultural Expo.
The Expo is organized by the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo and sees vendors from over 50 different diverse cultures and community groups in the RMWB.
On Saturday, residents took in cultural performances while enjoying a variety of international cuisine all in an attempt to help people better understand each other’s cultures.
Aryn Usher is the Interpretation and Translation Unit Manager for MCA and she tells Mix News the reaction from attendees was overwhelmingly positive.
“People say they love seeing all the different cultures,” Usher said. “I think it really shows how Fort McMurray can really unite and even though there are so many diverse cultures in our town, they can come together and unite in one room and display their excitement to be united.”

Usher feels the expo allows people to better understand each other’s cultures.
“The public coming into learn about those different cultures can really learn about some of those misunderstandings as well as celebrate that we are all in this together, as cliche as that sounds but we really are all in this together and that’s really just the atmosphere of Fort McMurray, I think.”
People also got to enjoy a youth talent show a fashion show and a parade of nations – which featured every cultural group in Fort McMurray.
Usher adds she hopes the success of the expo is a sign of things to come in the community.
