WinterPLAY is right around the corner and the RMWB has a number of activities and events for you to enjoy.
The winter-based festival has been celebrated for over a decade and this year, it just so happens to be running concurrently with the Alberta Winter Games.
Community Strategies Coordinator with the RMWB Roxanne Andras says this likely means more foot-traffic than usual for WinterPLAY.
She tells Mix News having the Winter Games run the same weekend should have a positive impact.
“The majority of everything at WinterPLAY is outside whereas the Games have some indoor activities. So, you can be outside for a bit to celebrate or inside for a bit. It also brings visitors in. So, this year we get to show our wonderful region to other parts of the province.”
Andras adds WinterPLAY embraces the winter identity of the region.
“We all know the majority of the months of the year in Fort McMurray are winter months. So, this is a nice three-day festival for everyone to celebrate winter and enjoy three days of fun.”
While access to the Park is technically available, the municipality wants people to know that access to Snye Point and adjacent parking lot is restricted and limited through February 21.
WinterPLAY runs from Friday, February 16 to February 18.
Volunteers are still needed and more information is at rmwb.ca/winterplay.
