Five local social profits are getting an early Christmas gift from the Fort McMurray Firefighters Association.
On Friday, members of the fire department surprised Waypoints, Wood Buffalo Food Bank, Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club, Centre of Hope and the Fort McMurray SPCA with a cheque for $15 thousand each.
Committee member and firefighter Scott Germain tells Mix News the donated funds were raised through two of their events – the Rooftop Campout and the Whisky Auction – both which saw record fundraising totals this year.
“We’ve had really good success this year. Our Rooftop Campout raised almost $50 thousand our Whisky night did actually raise $50 thousand. We were quite happy with that.”
Germain adds it’s important for them to help people on and off the job.
“So it’s not just, we’re being paid at work to respond to accidents and calls, but when we’re off work to help out those who need our help. Just to give money to all these different charities so they can help people in the community.”
“Just all of our volunteers and all the community who came out to support us we’re thankful to everybody,” Germain added.
