A municipal employee is receiving a provincial award for public works.
Director of Public Works and Transit Services Rob Billard was presented with the Alberta Public Works Association’s ‘Manager of the Year’ award at Tuesday’s council meeting.
Billard tells Mix News he doesn’t see this an individual award.
“I think this is a great award to receive – I look at this as a team award, got a great team.”
He first joined the municipality back in 2013 serving as Manager of Road Maintenance. Two years later, he was later named Director of Public Works and Transit Services.
Billard says this definitely wasn’t something he was expecting to come with the job.
“To tell the truth, I was shocked, I spoke with my assistant just to see if she was behind it but she indicated that APWA was contact with her.”
During the meeting, CAO Annette Antoniak and APWA Executive Director Jeannette Austin presented Billard with the award. Though not part of the presentation, Mayor Don Scott was all smiles when it came to seeing Billard get the award.
“It’s a moment of great pride not only for him but for this municipality and all of my council colleagues as well.”
Billard shares the same belief.
“It’s great for the municipality, it’s great to help the municipality attract other people to our area to come and work here and when they see a manager in the area gets a manager of the year award, we might be doing something right.”
