A shy but avid volunteer is being honoured by Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta.
Bushra Naseer is being named the 6th nominee for the Women of Inspiration series.
Since she arrived in Fort McMurray 13 years ago, she’s spent her time volunteering for the Markaz Ul Islam – being described as “Fort McMurray’s Angel, and one who tries to remain hidden.”
Naseer tells Mix News being nominated was a complete shock.
“I know there are so many people in town, all over Canada, who are doing so much more than what I have contributed if anything.”
This “behind the scenes” volunteer has not only been helping Wood Buffalo but other communities, especially in British Columbia after they were dealing with a number of wildfires. With help from the Markaz Ul Islam, she was able to send donations to families affected by the fires.
“She has initiated many social and educational programs including the latest drive for B.C. wildfires,” said Muhammad Ali AlZabidi, President of the Markaz Ul Islam, in a release.
“She was the key person behind the large donations we collected for the B.C. wildfires.”
Naseer says she volunteers her time simply because she loves to help people.
“Being kinds to each other even if it’s just giving a smile to someone, it’s very satisfying – it’s also something the world really needs right now, we’re going through so much turmoil.”
Naseer along with 11 other nominees will be honored at a Women of Inspiration Celebration next June.
