A new Volunteer Fire Department is up and running in Janvier.
The Janvier Fire Department held a community open house on Halloween and have already responded to their first call.
There are currently 10 volunteer community firefighters in the rural community including Fire Chief Jules Nokohoo.
“Opening a local fire department is an important milestone for the residents of Janvier,” said Darren Clarke, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief with Regional Emergency Services, in a release.
“I commend Fire Chief Nokohoo and all the volunteers for their bravery and service, and for their commitment to keeping Janvier and the surrounding area safe.”
The department won’t just provide fire protection but suppression and other non-medical related emergency assistance to the community and the surrounding area.
Each firefighter has been receiving training throughout 2017 from the RES Training and Recruitment Branch.
