The drop in oil prices and the 2016 Horse River Wildfire led to a less utilized Fort McMurray International Airport in 2016.
According to the Airport Authority’s 2016 Economic Impact Report, which was conducted by InterVISTAS Consulting Group, 740,000 landed at the airport last year down from 1.1 million the year prior.
The report also found aircraft movements were also down with the airport receiving over 46, 000 movements in 2016, versus roughly more than 65, 000 aircrafts handled in 2015.
When it comes to jobs, the airport has seen an increase in positions since 2013 to 900 jobs last year, which generated roughly $46 million in wages.
The airport also contributed $25 million in taxes, with $4 million of that going to the RMWB.
In all, the airport’s total economic output for 2016 was $354 million.
