The leader of the Progressive Conservatives has officially announced his candidacy for leadership of the United Conservative Party.
On Saturday, Jason Kenney declared that he would be throwing his hat in the ring for the leadership race of the newly formed party.
Kenney says this will be a challenging time in Alberta government – and he feels his experience has prepared him for the challenge.
“I have been blessed with the right kind of experience, which I believe has given me the temperament needed for the huge challenge ahead. And so, in a spirit of servant leadership, I am today announcing my intention to seek the leadership of the United Conservative Party of Alberta.”
The announcement follows his campaign run for PC Leader – which was followed by a unity agreement between the PC’s and Wildrose.
Last week’s membership referendum saw members vote 95 percent in favour of uniting Wildrose with the Progressive Conservatives.
It’s Kenney’s belief that Alberta needs a leader with conservative convictions – who has a proven track record in leading major reforms in government.
He and former Wildrose leader Brian Jean are the only candidates to announce their leadership bids.
