If you’re trying to access the Six Lakes recreational area, it’s now at your own risk.
The culvert at the 48-km marker north of the southern gate on the Fort Chipewyan winter road is washed out and won’t be repaired until the road is built in the fall, according to the RMWB.
The culvert is used to access the backcountry and is only maintained during the winter months.
Director of Emergency Management Jody Butz says if you know of anyone who’s currently in the backcountry get in touch with them as soon as possible.
“Likewise, backcountry users are encouraged to make contact with friends or family. We’re monitoring the situation and don’t expect any safety issues at this time, but if you or a loved one find yourselves in a dangerous situation please call 911.”
Crews are now mobilizing to secure and barricade the area.
