An attempted robbery was foiled at the Fort McMurray Golf Club over the weekend.
The incident took place around 10:40 a.m. Sunday.
General Manager Michael Gillan tells Mix News two individuals went into the Pro Shop asking to look at their clubs.
After speaking with the head professional they grabbed four drivers and tried to run away.
Gillan notes that’s when their senior manager chased them down before retrieving the clubs.
“They were trying to get into a taxi of all things and they ended up running on foot up the hill. We did get our equipment back, but they were not shy on trying to cash and grab, that’s for sure.”
Two other individuals were in the cab at the time.
Gillan says he believes this was planned as one of them was seen in the pro shop hours before.
“One of the individuals that was in the backseat of the taxi actually came to the golf course at 7 a.m. and was given a look around so they were casing the joint out, they were trying to be well equipped but I think their plan had some holes in it.”
He adds other courses have also had their recent fair share of attempted robberies.
A spokesperson for Wood Buffalo RCMP says one of the individuals has been arrested and they’re still looking for more “outstanding suspects.”
