One Westwood Community High School student is receiving a sizeable amount of money for winning a TD Scholarship for Community Leadership.
Grade 12 student, Angela Wang is receiving up to $70,000. She is among 20 students getting the money which includes opportunities for paid summer employment, mentorship opportunities, annual gatherings, and networking opportunities.
Wang won the scholarship for who outstanding academics and extracurricular activities.
“Nobody really expects to win such a huge scholarship. I had originally planned to take on student loans and get a part-time job, but receiving the TD scholarship means I can spend more time pursuing the things that really matter to me, things like volunteering, extracurricular activities and getting involved on campus,” said Wang, in a release.
She is the founding member of the Coding Club and SPARC, students participating actively and responsibly in the community. Wang is also taking AP classes in Calculus, physics, chemistry, and biology while being ranked first in academics over the last two years.
During an Interdisciplinary Science Competition at the University of Alberta, she scored the highest winning an award.
Wang notes she plans on study engineering at either the University of British Columbia or the University of Alberta.
