Suncor has extended the timeline for Syncrude’s Mildred Lake Upgrader to return to full operations after a fire caused an unplanned outage in March.
The upgrader has been operating at reduced rates since March 14 after a split in a 6-inch carbon steel line caused naphtha to leak.
Back in April, Suncor was expecting the facility to return to full rates by the end of June. However on Tuesday, the Calgary-based company said maintenance work scheduled for the fall has been added to the plan, extending the timing of full ramp up to mid-July.
Suncor says shipments have been reduced to approximately 130 kbpd in order to complete the accelerated maintenance. Shipments are expected to ramp up as additional units complete turnaround activities.
Suncor doesn’t expect the incident will change its overall production guidance for 2017.
