A massive search is underway for four missing hunters from Fort Chipewyan.
On Monday around 12:30 p.m., Fort Chipewyan RCMP responded to a report of the missing men.
Police say the hunters left the community on the Rocher River north of Fort Chipewyan on Sunday evening and were heading to an area known as Devil’s Gate.
Search and rescue teams with the assistance of two helicopters and approximately 30 boats from the community are currently out on the waters.
Chief of the Mikisew Cree First Nation Steve Courtoreille tells Mix News their boat has been found, but there’s been no sign of the men.
“Not sure if it was half full of water, but their equipment was still there, their guns were still in the boat, there was a gas tank in the water.”
Courtoreille adds everybody is on pins and needles hoping and praying that these men come up somewhere and are okay.
“Basically, the whole community is wondering and worried about the young men.”
