Alberta Works Week is looking to help you build your future.
100 career events are planned across the province from April 24th to the 28th to connect young and unemployed Albertans with career opportunities.
Four of those events will take place in Fort McMurray, including a Community Connection event, One-Stop Career Consultations, a Mini Job Fair and a Student Career Planning Day.
Regional Communications Manager for Alberta – Charles Strachey tells Mix News the week is an opportunity for those workers, young and old – to get their names out there.
“I think it’s a benefit to the job-seekers because what it does is allow you to explore all your options and pursue your full potential – rather than just taking what comes along.”
He explains how you can enhance your chances of employability.
“When you’re coming to these events, you should bring your resume or your work history because sometimes you can get help building your resume. If you’re meeting with employers looking to get hired – definitely dress-up, ready to impress employers. A lot of times, they have job interviews right on sight.”
Strachey says more jobs for the community means a positive impact to not only the municipality but for the province as well.
“It’s creating good jobs by investing in infrastructure and diversifying our economy and we’re already seeing results,” Strachey said. “The number of Albertans working full-time has risen by 40,000 since July. So, employment services and events like Alberta Works Week help Albertans take advantage of these new job opportunities.”
The four events happening in Fort McMurray will take place at the Alberta Works Centre starting with the Community Connection, which runs daily on April 24th-27th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Local high school and post-secondary students can even get help planning for their careers during the Student Career Planning Day which will be on April 27th from 9 a.m. to noon.
Alberta Works will help job seekers with resume reviews, interview preparation and give tips on enhancing your job search.
