Annual burn abatement work begins on Wednesday.
Every spring, Regional Emergency Services staff conduct controlled burns to get rid of the dead and dry fuels that accumulated over the winter in an effort to reduce the risk of wildfires in the region.
The RMWB says work starts on Wednesday at Real Martin Drive in Wood Buffalo behind the ESSO on both sides of the road. On Thursday the 13th and Monday the 17th, work will take place at the creek between Wood Buffalo Way and Tundra Drive.
On the 18th and 19th, crews will be at Fontaine Avenue and Prairie Loop Boulevard. Then on the 20th and 21st controlled burns will happen at the Silin Forest Road walking path.
These dates are subject to change based on weather conditions and necessary safety measures.
The Municipality says fire and smoke will be visible during these burns. They advise you keep your windows and doors closed if you live near an area where the burns are taking place.
