A documentary showing the life of six millennials looking for jobs in the oilsands will be shown in Fort McMurray.
“Limit is the Sky” was shot in the region from 2012-2016, capturing the boom of the economy, the fall and the wildfire and evacuation of the community.
The film was supposed to be about these individuals, all coming from different parts of the world, moving to the community and trying to get a job in the oil industry. It quickly changed when the economy fell.
“It was a huge surprise, the economy changed so fast,” said Julia Ivanova, Director. “The whole film was already filmed in December 2014, it changed so drastically that we understood that we had to continue because it would be a story outdated.”
Over the next few months, they reshot the film and edited it to feature both the boom and fall of the economy.
“My film captures the life of people in Fort McMurray, I filmed them like a fly on the wall, it’s a nostalgic chronical of Fort McMurray,” added Ivanova.
Though the film is about the economy and the oilsands industry, the end of the film will feature the wildfire and evacuation, summing up the last few years the community has faced.
The premiere will be in Fort McMurray on April 28 at the Suncor Energy Centre for the Performing Arts.
