The Wood Buffalo Recovery Task Force is sending out a safety video to teach kids about the dangers around construction sites.
Last week, the video was shown to the Recovery Committee during their bi-weekly meeting. The idea of the animated video is to send it to the local school districts where they can send it to all the schools in the community.
“The schools will take a very active part in making sure the kids are inundated with this information so they recognize the dangers and rebuild safety is the first and most important part of it,” said Committee Member Kim Jenkins.
Each school will get the freedom to show their students the video.
“You have to show it to the kids nine times in nine different ways, it’s a rule of nine,” added Jenkins. “Basically, it gets to the forefront of their brains so when they are walking home they immediately recognize the danger.
Jenkins says he hopes each school district adds a link to the video on their website so kids and their parents can continue to watch it in their home.
“We encourage anyone with children to watch this video together and have a chat about what it means to be aware, be seen, and be safe,” said Jeanette Bancarz, Chair of the WBRC.
