Police say they were alerted by Charles Bastien’s family last month that they haven’t heard from him since May.
“Through contact with the public, we’re confident that he evacuated Fort McMurray safely,” said Corporal Erika Laird.
The family told RCMP Bastien was staying in a camp outside of Fort McMurray.
Laird tells Mix News the distance between family members was the reason for the delay in reporting his disappearance.
“They live several provinces apart and in those situations, people don’t always have regular contact than people living in the same city.”
The Mounties say he speaks French and English and mostly resides in Edmonton, but has also lived in Quebec and Ontario. Laird notes there is a possibility he’s still in Alberta but they’re still unsure of his whereabouts.
Bastien is described as caucasian, “5’9”, around 180 pounds, with blonde/grey hair and green eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call RCMP. If you would like to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.tipsubmit.com.
