Council’s expenses are the main topic at the next Audit Committee meeting on Tuesday.
In total, Mayor and Council spent $44,806.36 in expenses, not including their travel.
Councillor Sheldon Germain spent the most, still staying well within budget. His biggest expenses included multiple sponsorships and advertisements.
Each Councillor does has a $20,000 budget for public relations and business conferences.

Mayor Melissa Blake also stayed under her budget set at $22,500. With many lunch meetings under her belt, she spent $5,703.95. She also added $3,071.91 from her many travels.
As for the travel expenses, everyone stayed under their budget.
Claris Voyageur and Julia Cardinal each had a budget of $32,200 for their travels as they live in the Fort Chipewyan area and fly in for Council meetings during the warmer months.
Councillors Stroud and Vinni each had a larger budget of $16,000 and $5,000 respectively as their wards are also outside of Fort McMurray.

An explanation was needed for each purchase Councillors made. Besides sponsorships, ads and the odd meal out, they spent most of their money on items and events for the community.
One example includes Councillor Stroud spending over $1,000 on gift cards for firefighters and volunteers in the Anzac and Gregoire Lake Estates.
Each member of council will also get a chance to discuss any numbers they or their peers have before they’re approved.
