The Wood Buffalo Summer Games clock has been saved.
The structure, which sat outside City Hall, was removed last month. The RMWB tells us it was placed in temporary storage because the clock wasn’t functioning and the materials used didn’t withstand the elements.
Organizer of the campaign to keep the clock, Robbie Picard tells Mix News he had a chance to speak personally with interim CAO Annette Antoniak.
“She said they were going to make sure it’s saved, most likely in an indoor facility, so I was satisfied with that and I think we get to keep the clock.”
He notes during his conversation with Antoniak she acknowledged that the clock was a special part of the community.
“She said she valued the clock, our community has history but some of its limited so she recognizes that it’s important to keep it.”
Municipal officials are working to find solutions and a permanent location for the clock in the near future.
According to Picard, he was told by Antoniak that they will be discussing the clock at a future council meeting, possibly in the next couple of weeks.
