École McTavish is getting ready for renovations and a new addition.
Solar panels are being added to the school. They’re one of 36 schools in the province to be chosen for the solar panel project.
In total, they’re getting $750,000.
Speaking on Fort McMurray Matters, Superintendent Doug Nicholls says this a perfect fit for the district.
“Because we have so many green scene initiatives, there was quite a bit of excitement by numerous people in the district and kids that we’re just pleased that this is happening in our district.”
Meanwhile, Nicholls notes a tender has been awarded, allowing them to expand.
“It’s been a seven to nine since its initial construction, now there will be an entirely different wing and that wing will house high school kids.”
He expects construction to start this spring and should take around 18 months.
