An organization in Fort McMurray is trying to get youth involved in the rebuild.
CAREERS: The Next Generation is hoping to get a positive from the wildfire and encourage today’s youth to start training for a possible career.
This would be an apprenticeship program and not a job opportunity.
“We’re looking for something where they gain skills and are part of the skilled labour force of the future,” said Elaine Read, Regional Director.
The idea is to have all areas take part and allow anyone interested in joining the program.
Rebuild Project Coordinator with Careers Lenzaya Nlandu says the program would develop leadership in the younger generation.
“We want youth to gain skills but also be qualified to be journeymen and provide some knowledge to the workforce of the community.”
Recommendations are being sent to the Task Force to see if this project could become a reality. This includes making sure all safety protocols are met, going above and beyond, and talking to Insurance Companies to see if they could promote and support the program financially.
