478 people have been admitted to hospitals across Alberta because of the influenza virus.
Since the start of flu season, 13 people have passed away, including one in Northern Alberta.
Doctor Jerry Predy says Alberta Health Services usually sees more flu cases around the holiday break
“People get together, travel more often, there’s more chances of passing the flu onto others. We usually see more cases around or just after Christmas.”
Predy stresses the importance of getting your vaccine to avoid the chances of catching the virus.
“It’s still not too late, they should get vaccinated as soon as possible, a lot of pharmacies and doctor’s offices offer it.”
AHS also recommends washing your hands often, covering your mouth when coughing and staying home when you’re sick to help stem the spread of the influenza virus.
