While 2017 is looking like the year of the rebuild for the RMWB, The Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee is already looking ahead to spring.
Speaking on Fort McMurray Matters, Chair of the WBRC Jeanette Bencarz says the committee is looking to plan a variety of recognition events around the community.
“We look forward to hearing from our community what they would like to see so we can help coordinate those activities, we don’t want everything happening on May 3rd.”
Bencarz adds that starting their planning process now will allow organizations to come together and collaborate on projects and events.
Adam Hardiman with the Wood Buffalo Task Force notes there are good opportunities that can come from gatherings like this.
“Often times when the event is over they say I’m really glad that I did that, that I came out to this and talked to my friends and neighbors and was reminded of what a great place Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo can be.”
Though nothing is set in stone yet, Hardiman says they want to make sure they’re reaching out and making the event community driven and fits with the emotional pulse of the region.
