If you’ve been driving down Franklin Avenue, you may have noticed work being done on the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.
The facility is currently undergoing a $42 million renovation.
Alberta Health Services infrastructure spokesperson Robert Storrier tells Mix News the Building Envelope Project started back in summer.
“The project is expected to increase the lifespan of this facility by replacing the entire exterior siding, roof and all of the windows.”
Storrier notes the project isn’t a result of the wildfire.
“In no way did the wildfire have any impact on this. This was a project that had been planned previously.”
Phase two of the project is expected to begin in 2018, with work scheduled to wrap up in 2020.
At the height of construction, the project will employ around 30 people.
Storrier notes there may be minor interruptions to operations of the facility during the course of construction.
