It’s a story almost to heartbreaking to bear. And yet something beautiful happened, steeped in the Christmas spirit of good will and love. Eric Schmitt-Matzen is one of the fellows who helps out a busy Santa by donning the red suit and suspenders and bringing good cheer to children of all ages. Not long ago, he was asked by a nurse to rush to a nearby hospital to visit a terminally ill boy of 5 years. He unfortunately did not make it and won’t see Christmas Day, but Christmas still came to the boy just in time. It’s a brutally sad story, and if you’d like to read more, here’s a story from NBC and a video of Saint Eric describing the moment. To Santa’s #1 Elf.
