Fort Chipewyan could be the home of a new oil sands project.
Teck Resources out of Vancouver have signed a participation pact with the Fort Chipewyan Metis for their Frontier Project.
The agreement for the truck and shovel project could see economic benefits, education and employment for the area.
The pact also lines out environmental stewardship and traditional land use related to the oil sands.
Teck’s project is currently under joint federal-provincial regulatory review. If approved, the Frontier oil sands will produce as much as 260,000 barrels of bitumen daily and employ 2,500 people.
