A “Sunshine List” is coming to Fort McMurray.
This is a public document that shows what employees for the municipality and public sector make for their yearly salary. The reason for the list is to show accountability and transparency in the use of public funds.
Council approved the list which will publicly show all municipal employees salaries if they make higher than $105,906 and public sector employees if they make over $126,375.
In total, the list will comprise of 523 employees and their salaries. This breaks down to 19 making more than $200,000, 37 earning more than $175,000, 115 earning more than $115,000 while 352 earn more than $126, 375.
The municipality also had the option to choose the starting threshold but decided to stay at the recommended salaries. Fort McMurray is following the same steps as Calgary and Red Deer who implemented their own “Sunshine Lists” in 2015.
