We are sending a huge and heartfelt thank you to Terry and Helga who organized the Christmas Ornaments for Fort McMurray drive, and to all of the volunteers, supporters, and donators across the province for giving a gift to so many in our community. The amount of ornaments and supplies raised was astounding, and the response from families in need was overwhelming. Over 400 families participated, but with no more items to distribute, the dedicated center at MacDonald Island was closed after day one. Terry and Helga are on the road back down to High River this morning, and we wish them a safe trip, and thank them again! Here are a few words they asked us to share with everyone.
Terry and I would like to thank the people of Fort McMurray for such a warm welcome! From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were among family. The tears, the hugs and expressions of gratefulness left us feeling overwhelmed and humbled. We feel honored to have been able to bring hope and expectation to so many fearful, hurting hearts through the donation of Christmas ornaments, decor and trees. We did not act alone. The kindness and generosity of Albertans has once again shone through. The many businesses, churches and organizations, locally and throughout Canada, that gave above and beyond is valued and appreciated so much. May the spirit of hope and generosity continue to thrive among us all. We believe Fort McMurray will recover and come back, better and stronger, together. And finally, “A merry Christmas to us all; God bless us everyone!”
