The region of Wood Buffalo is seeing a rise in domestic violence and sexual assault and abuse.
That’s according to the Executive Director of Waypoints.
While it’s difficult to give an exact number on the increase, Michelle Taylor says they’re hearing from police and the hospital that assaults are increasing.
“Just a test to the fact that people under so much stress and it’s making it hard to maintain healthy relationships.”
Meanwhile, in a report release by the province yesterday, it shows between May 10 and June 30, the local addiction and mental health staff received 20,000 referrals. Pre-fire, staff received about 1,200 referrals a year.
